The Hot Spot Fry style of fishing fly is reminiscent of another style of fly called a "Keys" style which is usually used for flies which target Tarpon and other large predator species. The style is extremely easy to cast and has great movement without the bulk of more traditional patterns. The hot-spot is significant in that it is what predator fish will be looking for in a bait fish that has been injured after a slashing attack through its shoal. Predators of ten come back after such an attack looking for the weak and maimed fry, and the hot-spot is the trigger that will result in a take for the angler. The materials used on the pattern are water-shedding once they have left the water, enabling these patterns to be fished on lighter kits and more sporting set-up's
